About us A scientific team with an innovative vision.
Our mission
Turning scientific knowledge into technological innovation.
We transform scientific knowledge into technological innovation
We believe that science should not remain restricted to laboratories
We work daily  to transform knowledge into practical, accessible and high-impact tools for the food industry.
We combine methodological rigour, business vision and user-friendliness,
We believe that real innovation is that which works in the real world, improves quality and reduces waste
Our goal is to put science at the service of operational decisions, from product formulation to shelf life management,  to build smarter, more sustainable and safer food.

Our history

FoodLife.next was born from the experience and passion of a group of researchers from the University of Udine, who have been working in the field of food technology for over twenty years. With a well-documented scientific background, over one hundred peer-reviewed publications and collaborations with companies, the team has chosen to transform their expertise into practical  solutions for the food  industry.

It all started with FoodLife 1.0, software developed in the early 2000s to support SMEs in Friuli Venezia Giulia region in estimating the shelf life of some food products. The success of the tool among regional companies prompted the group to evolve the idea into a larger, more structured project.

In 2025, FoodLife.next, a start-up from the University of Udine, was founded. The goal was to develop advanced digital tools to support  food companies in determining the shelf life  of food while reducing the risk of food waste.

From this vision, Tool4Food took shape. It is  innovative software designed to support food companies in predicting the “Best before date”  of food in a fast, simple and accurate way. The system exploits an extensive database built up over decades of scientific research and applies advanced algorithms, developed on a solid methodological basis.
Tool4Food combines scientific rigour, technological innovation and ease of use to ensure the transfer of knowledge from research to business. Our commitment is also to promote greater awareness of shelf life issues and work to actively contribute to reduce the risk of food waste.
